BARBADOS
November 2022
Landing on a Friday afternoon was the perfect time to arrive as we had plenty of time to get to the villa to drop our bags and go straight out to Oistin’s fish market! On a Friday night at Oistin’s you will find a variety of tents serving local fish on Bbqs, loud music and people dancing in the streets to the live performances on stage.
Barbados was a family favourite holiday destination for us when I was younger but we hadn’t been in over 10 years. We were pleased to see that the island hadn’t changed much at all and still had its fun, outgoing vibe without being too overcrowded. We stayed near Miami Beach on the south of the island. South Point surf spot is extremely popular as it has a perfect reef break. Whilst you’re out on the water turtles pop up all around you and you even have to try to avoid them if you manage to catch a wave!
In the evenings we strolled down to Cafe Luna, a gorgeous rooftop restaurant. If you want an incredible sunset view with your dinner then you should book a table at The Cliff.
We hired a car and spent the day driving around the island clockwise, which takes 3 hours. I would recommend stopping at Mullin’s Bay, Crane Beach, Cherry Tree Hill and Bathsheba Beach. There are also many secret beaches along the way if you park up and look on satellite maps.
Along the south coast you can walk a trail in front of the cliff side villas that overlook South Point. If you’re there at dusk all of the fireflies come out - which was a truly magical memory from this trip.
