JORDAN
November 2021
My time in Jordan was nothing short of incredible. The food, people and the scenery was some of the most amazing that I have ever experienced.
We arrived in Amman and collected a car for the 8 day road trip that we had planned. From Amman we stayed in a small town called Madaba. From Madaba we drove through the Blue Mountains to the Dead Sea. We stayed at the Mujib Biosphere Reserve on the Dead Sea which provided a unique experience of the Dead Sea, as opposed to hotels with roped off areas for swimming. The Biosphere accommodation gave residents a private path down to a pebble beach on the shores of the sea with views on a clear day across to Israel’s East coast.
Driving from the Dead Sea through the Blue Mountains to the Wadi Rum dessert provided some of the most mind-blowing views of red rock and dessert. We spent a night at the UFO hotel in the middle of the Wadi Rum desert. During the day you could sunbathe on your private terrace and during the night we stargazed from our pod.
On the 5th day we arrived in Little Petra and enjoyed a cocktail at the Cave Bar by the entrance to the ancient city. On day 6 we woke up at 4:30am to go into the ancient city of Petra. Walking the streets of the city and climbing the 800 steps to the monastery at 5am meant that for some time we were the only tourists in the city.
To finish the trip we drove through Aquaba, known for its Scuba Diving on the Red Sea, and followed highway 65 with the Dead Sea on our left. On our last night in Jordan we stayed in Amman and went for a final dinner at the High Garden Rooftop which was one of the best rooftop restaurants that I’ve been to on my travels.
