Arriving into the capitol Cairo pushed me out of my comfort zone immediately as even crossing the road from the airport to the street was a challenge! My time in Egypt was spent immersing myself in the fascinating Egyptian history. Highlights of my time in Egypt:
Visiting the Royal Hall of Mummies in Cairo where you can see the embalmed bodies of kings and queens of ancient Egypt and The Great Cairo museum where Tutankhamun’s treasures discovered in his tomb are kept. A short 45 minute drive crossing the bridge from Cairo to Giza brings you to The Great Pyramids. Venturing inside The Saqqara Pyramids to the south to go through the secret tunnels used to transport mummies and treasure thousands of years ago.
I took a night train from Cairo to Luxor and woke up in a totally different landscape filled with banana plantations and beautiful mountains. An early morning hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings and the Nile was unforgettable. I spent a day going to the Valley of the Kings to see Tutankhamun’s mummified body inside his tomb and then went on to the temple of queen Hatshepsut.
On the East Bank of Luxor lies the Luxor Temple where I spent a couple of hours looking at Egyptian Hieroglyphics on the crumbling temple stone.
